The landscape changes with the seasons
In winter the massive snow capped peaks nearby provide skiing and a stunning backdrop against an often clear blue sky. There is usually some snowfall at lower levels too but it rarely lasts long. Generally the temperature is colder in January and February whilst the weather before Christmas can be very pleasant.
Spring brings warm sunshine and sometimes showers and the countryside bursts into life, the air perfumed with Acacia trees. Late May is magical because you'll see the arrival of the fireflies that come out at dusk like a thousand fairy lights - an experience you'll never forget.
From June onwards the summer arrives and it's usually hot in July and August. This is the time to relax on the beach or in the shade during the day and take a siesta in the afternoon. In the balmy evening temperatures you can stroll in the local towns, enjoying an ice cream or something stronger !
Temperatures cool down from September onwards but it's still usually very warm and you can enjoy being out and about during the day. The landscape becomes an amazing coloured tapestry as the vineyards go from yellow to orange and red. This is a busy time for harvesting precious grapes from September onwards and olives from late October.
Italy is renowned for its festivals and Abruzzo has its fair share. They take place throughout the year, but in particular from Easter onwards and they are always free to everyone. Towns put on parades, speciality markets, celebrations of seasonal foods, concerts and lots of firework displays. At the end of May all the local vineyards open their cantinas for wine tasting, although this is also something we can arrange for you to do at any time. We can let you know which special events are taking place around the time you plan to get married.
